Johor Bahru, 21 April 2009 – Today, AEON Co. (M) Bhd. unveiled the state’s first-ever eco-friendly AEON shopping centre. The opening ceremony celebration commenced at 11.00 am at the AEON Bukit Indah Shopping Centre’s Centre Court where it was officiated by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Baginda Sultanah Zanariah binti Almarhum Tunku Ahmad.

The new AEON Bukit Indah Shopping Centre aims on reducing CO2 emissions by focusing on energy conservation. The shopping centre features energy-conserving technologies and innovations such as rooftop solar panels to generate energy, controls for low-level lighting which provides a high level of visual comfort (makes use of natural light and has low energy requirements) and anti-frosting heaters which reduce power consumption by up to 66%.

AEON Bukit Indah Shopping Centre takes pride with its outdoor vegetation to maintain cooler temperatures. These plants which can be found growing along top of the compound wall and on the car park awnings. The most prominent plant here are the ‘creepers’ which help to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen; helping to cool down the surrounding temperature.

The AEON Bukit Indah Shopping Centre’s façade was also constructed out of recycled materials which were created using a composite of polymer (pure) resin and bio-composition material. The basic ideology is to achieve efficient environment preservation by replacing building materials such as timber with recycled bio-waste materials.
