PRIZES GIVEN AWAY TO SCHOOLS IN PARTICIPATING ‘RECYCLABLE COLLECTION COMPETITION’

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 June 2011 – AEON CO. (M) BHD which operates the JUSCO general
merchandise stores, supermarkets and shopping
centre chain, has embarked on giving back to
the society initiative through its corporate
social responsibility project with prize giving
ceremony to schools who has participated in
‘Recyclable Collection Competition’ at Alpha
Angle Shopping Centre, here today.
The competition which is one
of the main activity highlighted for ‘AEON World
Environment Day 2011’ in conjunction with the
celebration of “World Environment Day 2011”
was launched by the Chairman of Cheras Education
Foundation, Y.B. Datuk Wira Syed Ali bin Tan
Sri Abbas Alhabshee.
Total of 2,200 kg recyclable
collection was collected during the competition
among the five schools who has participated
in the competition. The highest collection of
the competition is from Sekolah Kebangsaan Puteri
Pandan 1 with total of 1257 kg, followed by
Sekolah Kebangsaan (1) Batu 3, Klang (795 kg),
Sekolah Kebangsaan Wangsa Maju Seksyen 1, Sekolah
Kebangsaan Taman Bukit Maluri and Sekolah Jenis
Kebangsaan (T) Kajang.
During the competition which
organized by AEON and Nestle Malaysia, the students
from standard one until standard three have
to bring their cereal box in any brands and
the highest collection among the school will
be awarded RM 400 JUSCO Gift Vouchers. Whilst,
the Best School who has highest collection among
the schools will be receiving RM 1,000 worth
of books.
Besides that, AEON has also
donated 3R Recycle Bins to all schools to educate
the school children in recycling to preserve
the environment for future generation.
The AEON World Environment
Day will be held from 23rd June 2011 to 26th
June 2011, taking place at the Centre Court
of AEON Alpha Angle Shopping Centre in Wangsa
Maju, Kuala Lumpur.
In conjunction of the World Environment Day, AEON aims to create more environmental
awareness while educating the general public
on the significance of forest preservation
and restoration. The event, themed ‘Nature
at Your Service’, will showcase the importance
of biodiversity conservation for the current
and future generation, with the focus placed
on natural forests.
Among the event’s scheduled
highlights are enlightening and exciting
activities such as eco origami, Sudoku
and pledge forest, colouring and drawing
contests, treasure hunt and a Sound of
Nature performance from Southern Spirit.
There will also be a prize presentation
for schools that had taken part in the
recyclables collecting competition while
recyclable materials will also be collected
throughout the duration of the event.
AEON’s
Environment Day is joined by exhibitors such
as Tetrapack, Southern Waste Management Sdn.
Bhd, Balai Seni Lukis Negara, Forest Research
Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Malaysian Department
of Wildlife and National Parks as well as
Southern Spirit. It promises to be a meaningful
and motivating event to drive the crowd towards
a greener future.
